Red Dead Redemption Has Been Rated By ESRB For PS5 And Switch 2, Suggesting A Remaster Is On Its Way – WGB

Before you get overly excited, I want you carefully note that we are talking about Red Dead Redemption and not Red Dead Redemption 2. Sadly, there’s still no word of RDR2 coming to modern consoles, despite the neverending rumours.

But that brings us to Red Dead Redemption. A new ESRB rating for the game has popped up that lists both PS5 and the Switch 2.

This might be slightly confusing at first glance, because a few years ago there was an actual Red Dead Redemption port released for PS4 and the Switch, which caused a bit of a stir because it was priced at $50 despite not being a remaster or offering much of anything new. It was technically better than the original game, but not enough to justify the pricetag to many people.

A while later, Rockstar quietly updated the PS4 version to include a 60FPS toggle for PS5 users. The fact that this was not included from the very start was baffling.

So what the hell is this new version that has popped up? Well, it could simply be native PS5 and Switch 2 versions of the existing ports. But I think it might be a little more than that….

First, this new version specifically lists an Xbox Series version. This is important because the port from a few years ago didn’t get an Xbox release because the original Xbox 360 version is still readily available on the Xbox store.

My thinking is that this might actually be a genuine remaster of some sort. Knowing Rockstar it probably won’t be a huge upgrade, but it might have some improved textures, 60fps as standard etc.

Presumably this might be offered as -dare I say it – a free upgrade to existing owners? And a standalone release otherwise that essentially replaces the previous port and the Xbox 360 version that’s still for sale. That would, I believe, be enough to warrant the ESRB having to rate it all over again.

Then again, this is Rockstar and Take-Two, so who really knows.
