Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Now The 4th Best-Selling Game Of All Time – WGB

Take-Two had a fairly busy few days, announcing the delay of GTA 6 and all. But there was another interesting tidbit of news to be found inside the investor report.

That’s right, everybody’s favourite cowboy simulator Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold-in a staggering 79 million copies, which brings the franchise up to a total of 106 million units sold.

Note: sold-in is a term used to mean copies that were sold to retailer, whereas sold-through refers to copies actually sold from retailer to customer.

That 79 million copies means Red Dead Redemption 2 is now the 4th best-selling game of all time. The Wikipedia page has already been updated, showing that cowboys are now better than Mario in a go-kart by roughly 980k copies. Suck on that, plumber.

It’ll very likely capture third place soon as well, currently occupied by Wii Sports which has sold 82.9 million copies.

Once it grabs 3rd place on the leaderboard, Rockstar will officially have two of three best-selling games of all time, with GTA IV boasting 220 million sold in 2nd place.

Minecraft is the current leaderboard king, at 350 million copies and counting.

Of course, when GTA 6 finally gets its arse in gear and actually launches, there’s a very good chance it’ll catapult itself up that board at a rate which will make heads spin and stock prices head for the Moon.

Interestingly, while Take-Two was happy to boast specific numbers for RDR2, they still haven’t issued any official sales data for Borderlands 4 which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described as being “softer” than expected. Then again, they same document also didn’t include numbers for Mafia: The Old Country which they seem very pleased with, so I guess we just don’t get numbers these days until they enter the realms of oh my god, it sold how much!?
